The Story
Murugan leaves his small-village life and the modest idli-shop his father runs in order to chase bigger dreams. He moves away, ambitious to make a name for himself beyond the confines of his father’s eatery. Years pass, and he builds up a life away from home — but tragedy strikes: his father dies, and Murugan returns to take charge of the family business, the “Idly Kadai”. What he expects will be a straightforward return turns into a struggle: he finds the shop facing financial, operational and community pressures, while his own memories, guilt and resentments surface. At the same time, he must deal with adversaries—those who looked down on the humble shop, those who made money elsewhere, and those who believe tradition is outdated. Murugan works to revive the eatery, reconnect with the villagers, realign with his roots, and stake his claim to identity and respect. Along the way he confronts the compromises he made, the life he left behind, the values he forsook, and the meaning of home. His journey becomes a balancing act between ambition and legacy, between what he came from and what he hoped to become. In the end, through perseverance, reconnection and moral reckoning, Murugan emerges changed: he may not have everything he once wanted, but he rediscovers something more enduring—belonging, worth and the pride of carrying forward what his father began.
