The Story

Frank Remnick is a U.S. Marshal assigned to the remote, rugged terrain around Fairbanks, Alaska, a region so sparsely populated and so inhospitable that his jurisdiction has always been quiet and predictable. One day a federal prison transport plane crashes deep in the wilderness just two miles south of the town. The crash releases dozens of violent inmates into the Alaskan barrens, instantly turning the quiet frontier into a chaotic battleground. Remnick’s team rushes to the crash site only to walk into an ambush, which leaves him reeling and his deputies dead or incapacitated. As the manhunt unfolds, Remnick teams up—reluctantly—with CIA agent Sidney Scofield, who arrives with a special interest in a high-value prisoner known as “Havlock,” a former CIA asset turned fugitive. Within the wreckage of the crash and among the escaped convicts, it becomes clear that Havlock is more than just an escapee: the crash appears to have been orchestrated from the inside as part of a much broader, covert operation. Remnick must battle both the physical threats—armed inmates, brutal terrain, sub-zero wilderness—and the covert threats—hidden agendas, betrayals, conspiracies—in order to protect his town and family. Meanwhile, the remoteness of Alaska is used not only as terrain but as character: the wilderness amplifies every mistake, every chase, every hidden alliance. Remnick’s home life is strained: after the death of his daughter they are trying to rebuild, and his teenage son, Luke, is drifting. The escapees wreak havoc in the town’s outskirts and deep in the woods: one by one they surface, trap, kill, or terrorize locals, forcing Remnick, Scofield, and their team to push past conventional law-enforcement protocols. Amid the chaos, Havlock taunts Remnick, threatening to expose buried secrets, claiming the crash was the opening salvo of “Archive 6,” a classified file connected to the Atwater Protocol and long-hidden covert programs. As the crisis deepens, Remnick learns that the line between local law and national intelligence is blurred — he must make choices about who to trust. Scofield’s own past, personal losses and hidden connection with Havlock complicate the mission further. The series builds toward a showdown: as the fugitives make a bold move, threatening a tourist transport and key hostages, Remnick must face not just the physical survival of his town but the moral survival of his community and family. By the end of the first arc, Havlock disappears into the wild after a dramatic leap from a hanging transport, leaving many questions unanswered and Remnick forced to accept that his world has irrevocably changed. Through snow-covered forests, isolated cabins, and a town pushed to its limits, The Last Frontier transforms from a simple manhunt into a layered thriller where survival meets conspiracy, and where the frontier is less about wilderness than about all the things that hide beneath.
