Bella Baxter, a young woman with the mind of an infant in the body of an adult, lives under the care of the brilliant and unorthodox surgeon Dr. Godwin Baxter. On the day Bella is set to marry Max, her past unexpectedly resurfaces in the form of General Blessington, a cruel and aristocratic man who claims Bella as his former wife, Victoria Blessington. He reveals the true circumstances of her death: she was pregnant and distraught, having jumped from a bridge to escape his control. Blessington attempts to reclaim Bella and confine her once more. Bella, having come to terms with her past and asserting her autonomy, refuses to be dictated by anyone. Drawing upon the surgical skills she learned from Godwin, she takes drastic action against Blessington, effectively incapacitating him and removing him as a threat. Bella then embraces her destiny, continuing Godwin's legacy as a surgeon and scientist.
