The Final Destination

Storyline

At the McKinley Speedway, Nick O'Bannon experiences a vivid premonition of a horrific race car crash. The vision shows a catastrophic pile-up on the track, sending debris and burning cars into the stands, resulting in countless deaths and injuries. Panicked, Nick warns his girlfriend Lori Milligan, their friends Hunt Wynorski and Janet Cunningham, and several other spectators, causing a commotion that leads to them being escorted out of the stadium just moments before the disaster unfolds exactly as he foresaw. However, escaping the initial tragedy only delays their demise, as Death begins to collect those who cheated their fate. The first to die is Carter Daniels, a racist who argued with Nick at the track, crushed when his truck's engine explodes and a tow chain snaps, decapitating him. Next, Samantha Lane, a woman Nick saved, is killed when a rock launched by a lawnmower strikes her eye, causing her to stumble into the path of an automatic recliner and then fall into an overflowing pool, drowning in a drain. Andy Kewzer, another survivor, is then launched into a chain-link fence by a bursting propane tank, his body contorting into the shape of the fence before an exploding CO2 canister sends him flying. Hunt Wynorski meets his end when a golf ball accidentally dislodges a drain plug in a swimming pool, sucking him to the bottom where the pressure causes his internal organs to rupture. Nick, Lori, and Janet, along with security guard George Lanter (who himself survived a past event where his family died), begin to piece together clues, realizing that omens and coincidences precede each death, hinting at Death's pattern. Nick has a premonition of a cinema disaster, where several survivors, including Janet and Lori, would die. They rush to the cinema, but it's too late for some. Lori manages to save Janet and themselves from the initial collapse, only for Death to follow them into an adjacent mall. Nick then sees a different vision, leading him to believe the cinema itself will explode. After a chase and further narrow escapes, the group believes they have finally thwarted Death's design after a series of events involving a malfunctioning escalator, a nail gun, and a faulty projection room leads to a massive explosion at the cinema, killing all the other remaining survivors they were trying to save. Three months later, Nick, Lori, and Janet are at a coffee shop, believing themselves safe. Nick, however, begins to notice a series of strange occurrences and omens around the cafe. Just as he realizes Death is not finished, a runaway cement truck careens into the café, triggering a chain of events that results in an explosion and the instantaneous deaths of all three remaining survivors.
