Reeling from this betrayal, Jassi is stranded in an unfamiliar country and emotionally adrift. Around the same time, Rabia, who runs a wedding-dance troupe along with her step-daughter Saba and a quirky ensemble of friends, is burdened by her husband’s abandonment and financial troubles. Saba is in love with Goggi, the son of a stern and patriotic Punjabi businessman-turned-gangster, Raja Sandhu, who will only approve the match if the bride comes from a “respectable” (Indian) background. Because Saba is Pakistani by birth, this approval seems impossible. In a moment of inspiration (or desperation), Rabia ropes in Jassi to pose as her husband—claiming him to be a retired war hero—and pretend to be Saba’s father in order to win Raja’s favour.
